Dancing With Water And Color is a series of my current abstract watercolor paintings. This exhibit is a balance of personal expression, and lyrical abstraction. Altering shape, texture, color, form and gesture, while experimenting with the natural reaction of blending water and pigment producing compositions that are fluid and vibrant. Yes, the abstract process is a dance, where the development of a piece becomes interactive and spontaneous.

The Horizon is a theoretical line that separates the earth from the sky. I find that it has always drawn me, the observer, to stare and marvel at its vastness and beauty, especially during a sunrise, sunset or a dramatic storm. This series of watercolors is inspired by recent seasonal storms.

I move the water and paint across the paper with a little coaxing and lifting to achieve the results of the clouds and stormy skies as organically as possible.

Abstract Horizons is just what the title suggests. I took my original theme of Horizons and transformed it into abstraction. I used the same methodology with color and form to obtain the final results.

This series of watercolors began as an exercise in free form painting allowing pigmants and water to interact on paper along with various techniques of scraping and lifting. I am very pleased with the final results of intense color and movement.

Calla lilies are an elegant flower that signify purity, faith and gratitude. The name Calla is derived from Greek and means beauty. In ancient Greek mythology, the Calla Lily is said to have come from Hera, the wife of Zeus and it has also been associated with the godess Venus in Roman mythology.

I enjoyed experimenting with new techniques for this series.

Mandavellias are a tropical flowering vine that provide colorful blooming flowers throughout the season. Their bright colors of white, red, pink and yellow contribute to the radiant summer palate.

I have taken liberties with style and hue to create abstract images full of color.

This series of watercolors reflect my abstract interpretation of the Blue Evening Primrose.

I made a strong connection with the rich blues and golden yellows of this vibrant flower and the various ways the colors blended on paper as I experimented with their interactions.

Irises are named after the Greek God of Rainbows, “Iris”. They are rich in color and graceful in form. Because of their elegance, they have been the symbol (“Fleur de Lys”) of monarchs and royal families over centuries.

Again, I have taken liberties with style, texture and color to create abstract images representing my interpretation of this majestic flower.

Poppies are a special wildflower with colors ranging from brilliant white, vibrant pink, vivid yellow, bright red, crisp orange, deep purple and even black.

Once again, with this series of watercolors, I have taken liberties with style and color to generate images that are whimsical impressions and abstract images full of color and movement.

Monstera Deliciosa is a species of flowering large leaved plant native to tropical forests of Central America.

I find them to be stately, majestic and an interesting subject to paint.

These abstracts are my interpretation of the colors, spirit and moods of the seasons.

Spring is a new beginning of growth and development. It’s a time of year when nature presents an overture of beautiful colors after a cold and dark winter.

This series of watercolors represent my impressions of this energizing time of year.
